More Fall Quarter Classes

Kim Brooks Mata (see below for bio) will be teaching 4 Modern dance classes this quarter!

The dates for these classes are:
November 14th

November 28th
December 5th

All classes are FREE and will be held Sundays from 5:30-7 p.m. in the Ratner Dance Studio. Keep checking the blog for more information.

Remember to wear clothes you can move in--no jeans!

Kim Brooks Mata has studied dance both nationally and internationally. After having received her BA degree in Art History with a minor in Dance from the University of Kentucky, she studied at the Rotterdam Dance Academy in the Netherlands. Upon her return from Europe, Kim attended the University of Utah where she received her MFA in Modern Dance. In addition to her MFA, she is a certified Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analyst (CLMA) and incorporates this valuable system into her teaching, performing and choreographic endeavors. Prior to moving to Chicago in late 2007, Kim performed professionally with multiple companies throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and was the project administrator for the non-profit dance organization Bay Area National Dance Week. She has taught at the University of Utah, California State University East Bay, the University of San Francisco, and the University of Chicago. At the moment, she is freelance teaching and choreographing. Kim is fascinated with dance performance, its use for self-exploration and its role in culture and community.

Spring 2010 Classes

Welcome to spring quarter! Come and break a sweat with our free, all-levels modern and contemporary jazz classes.

Classes will be held from 7-8:30pm on Sunday evenings, beginning April 11th. All classes will be held in BARS (Bartlett Arts Rehearsal Space) in the Bartlett building on the northwest corner of 57th and University.

April 11th – Modern with Kristina Fluty

April 18th – Contemporary Jazz with Becca Lemme

April 25th – Modern with Kristina Fluty

May 2nd – Contemporary Jazz with Becca Lemme

May 9th – Modern with Kristina Fluty

Human/Nature this weekend!




Please join UC Dancers for our annual winter show, this weekend, Feb. 19th - 21st in the Bartlett Arts Rehearsal Space.

We will be presenting student work by Kelly Go, Maranda Blount, Jessica Hester, Erica Cartmill, Anastasia Belotzerseva, Elizabeth Greenstein, Kate Swanson, Alaina Valenzuela, Virginia Rangos & Amulya Mandava, Shawnteal Turner-Perry, and Julia Nee. This work is inspired by animal movement and human behavior.

Performances will be Friday and Saturday at 8pm, and Sunday at 1pm. Tickets are $5.

Winter Quarter Class Schedule




Freezing cold? Come warm up with some free dance classes!
Since we're in the midst of preparing for our show, we won't be holding classes until Feb. 25th. After that, we'll be hosting free, modern and jazz classes.

Winter Arts Festival




UC Dancers will be participating in Sliced Bread's second annual University-wide Winter Arts Festival on Thursday, January 28th.
We'll be performing excerpts from our upcoming show, "Human/Nature," and doing some improv. Come see us perform in Mandel Hall at 9:30PM!

Featuring original pieces by Kelly Go, Kate Swanson, Virginia Rangos and Amulya Mandava, Julia Nee, Anastasia Belotzerseva, Maranda Blount, Erica Cartmill, Alaina Valenzuela, Shawnteal Turner-Peery, Elizabeth Greenstein, and Steffi Carter, with a commissioned piece by professional choreographer Corey Nagel.

Tickets $5 w/ UCID, $7 others
